Emma Nightingale (b.1997) explores concepts of escapism, reverie, and psychoanalysis within her intricate paintings and sculptures. Through the exploration of personal sentiments and memories, Nightingale conjures groupings of figures and flora to serve as vessels for the expression of pain, resilience, and healing. Compositions emerge organically, without any predetermined outcome, leaving space for honest, heartfelt reflections.
Nightingale is a British artist who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Falmouth University in 2019. She has exhibited internationally, showing work in the UK and New Zealand – notably undergoing a residency and exhibition programme at the acclaimed Porthmeor Studios, St Ives, and becoming a finalist in New Zealand’s 2021 National Contemporary Fibre Arts Awards with her sculpture Head In The Clouds.
