Helga could always be found drawing in her sketchbook about her day-to-day life, and produced hundreds of Modern Art paintings. She painted many landscapes of Iceland, the country of her birth. and New Zealand, the final country she lived in. In New Zealand Helga opened an Arts Centre in a Church on the west coast of South Island.
In the UK she was heavily involved in art in the community and worked on many school projects alongside the pupils. Helga undertook many art projects in the landscape, like “The Bench” on Shoreham Beach, and “Icarus and the Mermaid”, in Bolsover, Rugby. “Icarus and the Mermaid” is currently undergoing renovation by Katie a mural artist local to Rugby. The Community mural was recently described as “An iconic image of Brownsover”, created in 1995, its hard to believe its almost 30 years old.
