My Auntie Made It
I spent most of my working life in Purchasing in the NHS, but since leaving I discovered an exciting world of so many occupations.
From having an Antique Shop and travelling to Antique Fairs to working for Creative Partnerships, an Arts Council funded programme bringing the Creative Arts into the learning environment.
Sewing was always my relaxation but there was never enough time , until I retired.
Quilting was my passion and I became fanatical about never discarding any scrap of fabric, no matter how small, as it could be used to make a Scrap Quilt.
My other pastime was searching Charity Shops for interesting fabrics and I often wondered what happened to the clothes that didn’t sell and was told they were sent to a Textile Recycling Plant. This got me thinking that perhaps I could recycle them into something useful.
So, I started to make bags and accessories, all from recycled clothes, cushion covers or any fabric items that I could find in Charity/Thrift Shops and Boot Sales.
In todays world of throwaway clothing the idea that an item of clothing could get a new lease of life as a bag, is for me, what recycling is all about.
