Liz works as a professional freelance musician since graduation from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Liz’s career has been made up of not only playing Double Bass in Orchestra’s but also as a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the Junior Department. As well as playing Double Bass, Liz plays and teaches Piano and plays the Flute. Liz has had many roles in several secondary schools, providing support to Music Departments and teaching Double Bass.
Liz is a mother to two daughters and was widowed in 2019, her partner was Heart Transplantee.
She speaks German almost fluently, French conversational and wishes she could speak Dutch! Her hobbies include History, Gardening, Sports, Travel, Languages, Food and Drink
Liz has managed to achieve her ambition to work as a musician despite falling ill at the age of 17. The illness caused her to go into kidney failure, and she had to have a transplant, the kidney was donated by her mother in May1990.
After the transplant she graduated and followed her dream of becoming a Professional Musician, she met her late partner Russ at the British Transplant Games. Since becoming a transplantee, Liz has been heavily involved in advocating organ donation and has completed in the British and World Transplant Games. In 1993 she was selected for her first World Transplant Games in Vancouver, Canada. Ever since then, I have competed for Team GB and 2023 will be my 16th World Games and 30 years of competing internationally.
In March 2022 Liz was awarded the “Spirit of Competition” by the Word Transplant Games Federation, the first GB Transplant athlete to receive this, and collected the award in Person at the World Transplant Games, Perth, Australia in April 23.
