Viv Chitty has been an executive coach for 26 years, she is also a coach supervisor and author. She specialises in coaching women and men at senior level who have many demands made on them.
Viv studied Psychology at university and loved the subject right from the start.
As a new graduate she started her career as an NHS HIV worker providing HIV prevention advice and awareness training in the community. And it was from here that her interest in addressing workplace issues evolved as she worked with organisations to help them develop HIV employment policies, which led to her arguing the case for an NHS workplace health promotion service in north London – which she then set up. During this time, she was studying a postgraduate diploma in counselling and this is when her interest in person-centred ways of working with people began.
This fascination with people in work led to her next position, setting up a consultancy for the National Office of Victim Support which focussed on enabling businesses to manage the aftermath of crime in the workplace. This new service offered consultancy (and training) to over thirty big name clients such as Virgin Trains and Majestic Wine.
Having trained to be an executive coach with the School of Coaching Viv established Viv Chitty Associates, a coaching consultancy, in 1999. Since then she has coached people across many sectors – with organisations such as the NHS, Bank of England, Virgin Holidays, global hotels chains and many financial organisations. Viv has also worked with HR clients to set up mentoring programmes in City banks and trained over 50 people to mentor their staff.
Viv brings a wealth of experience to her executive coaching and supervision work which is enhanced by her continued development and training, including a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring from Oxford Brookes University. The specific focus of her masters was to research the topic of human energy and how this can be addressed in coaching and by people out of their coaching sessions. The findings from her research form the basis of her book ‘Coaching for Optimal Energy: A guide for executive coaches’.
Away from her work, Viv has two sons and various animals have come in and out of her life over the years. She is obsessed with travelling and at her most happy scrambling around a ruin in some jungle – as long as she doesn’t have to swim in anything cold or slide down snowy slopes.
