We want Mentors for Women to be a place of inspiration, a place to share our stories both personal and professional. A place to check in and see what is new, a place to be and a space to grow and we see training as a key element of our service. We want to be able to grow your mentoring skills, train up new mentors and make us all more valuable in the workplace, wherever and whatever that workplace is.
As Sam Chittenden our Director of Training says
We aim to nurture the perfect balance between support and challenge, skirting the edge of our comfort zones where learning happens.
The ethos of Mentors for Women is one of growth for everyone – mentors and mentees alike.
Our vision is that mentors will develop their skills and expertise as a result of their involvement, including learning from their mentees… We also see our mentees as future potential mentors, and aim to develop Mentors for Women as a community of mentoring practice.
Mentors for Women members have access to a multi-level training programme. Training sessions are offered throughout the year for members and for non-members at a premium.

The Mastery of Self Expression – Course
A weekend of self discovery, creativity and confidence
The Mastery of Self Expression created by Dan Fauci, is a practical workshop that invites us to take the stage truly as ourselves. It is a weekend course in creative self-expression that puts you in touch with who you really are and what you really want. The Mastery will help you discover what is really possible when you bring more of your authentic self into your life. Many people describe it as a truly life changing event.
Most people are naturally creative and are somehow aware that they’ve cut off this unique part of themselves. When they hear there’s a space in which to express this uniqueness, it means a chance to fulfil a deep, long-held wish…” Dan Fauci
Originating from the Actors’ Institute in New York in the 1970s, and designed to help actors develop the quality of riskiness in their performances, The Mastery soon became a personal development for people of all walks of life. It has helped thousands of people explore how they can bring more of their inner resources – feelings, passion and creativity – to their performances, presentations or interactions with others.
This is a tremendous opportunity to risk stepping into a scary and vulnerable place in the presence of a safe, friendly and empathetic audience. It is a workshop where people inspire each other, and find out more about themselves not through huge feats of endurance, but in relationship.
Impact
Some of the results most frequently reported by participants are:
- greater confidence and self belief
- increased self-awareness
- improved relationships
- clearer sense of vision and direction in life
- greater ability to assert themselves
- increased ability to communicate expressively
- greater understanding of limiting patterns of behaviour
- rekindling of joy and enthusiasm for life
- improved ability to make decisions and choices
- being able to live their own life and not someone else’s expectation
Feedback
“Workshop should be called the ‘Resurrection’ because it has made me come alive again”
“A deeper sense of who I am. Brilliant.”
“I needed a push & I feel the Mastery delivered that! A push delivered in a very safe, nurturing environment.”
“I feel calmer, stronger, more grounded, open and resilient; more sure of who I am, what I want, and what I can do to achieve that.”
“A thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening course – to be recommended.”
Leadership
Facilitated by Sam Chittenden, Mentors for Women Director of Training, and accredited Mastery leader, alongside other Mastery leaders from the UK and further afield.
Logistics
The Mastery takes place over a Friday evening and weekend, followed by an optional follow-up evening 10 days later. Courses are limited to a maximum of 18 participants to ensure individual attention.
Preparation
Prior to the weekend you will need to learn a two minute piece (poem, song, dance, monologue, story, piece of music, mime etc) that you will use as a vehicle for your expression. Choose something that chooses you or which you feel passionately about. It shouldn’t be something improvised. Learning it off by heart is important — it means that you will be freer to experiment.
Learn more
Anyone who’s done the Mastery will tell you that it’s curiously difficult to explain quite what the workshop is and what makes it so unique and powerful. This is why most people who attend the workshop hear about it via word of mouth. If you’d like to talk to someone about their experience of the workshop, we can arrange this for you. We will also run some taster sessions in the run up to each workshop. If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch with our Director of Training, Sam Chittenden – here
You can find out more about the workshop and what people say about it in the book On The Edge compiled by Mastery leader Christine Kimberley. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edge-Anthology-Mastery-Leaders/dp/0956496407
Next Mastery
You will need overnight accommodation on Friday and Saturday if you are not local to Brighton and Hove.
