Liz adds more medals to her already significant collection
Our amazing mentor Liz Hosford was, as ever, active in both these events, and as usual she came home with a handful of medals!
The European Transplant Games were held in Lisbon this year, and Liz won Gold for Javelin with her Personal Best score! She also won Silver for Shot Putt and for Volleyball, Liz was captain of the Volleyball Team. As well as these outstanding performances she participated in both Padel and Pétanque.
As Captain of the Volleyball team Liz was pleased to say that they also gained a clutch of medals.
Liz said
“I do love field athletics. There’s something very liberating and powerful about the javelin, and shot putt ladies are always fab!!
I threw a Personal Best for me in javelin – 19.54 and Shot was 6.97, which got me Gold and Silver respectively!!!!. More importantly the best time with wonderful people who are the shining example of how Organ Donation can transform lives!!”
Liz then had a day of work, yes she still manages to fit work in, before she set off for Nottingham and her 32nd British Transplant games.
Then disaster struck, Liz Popped her calf whilst practising with the Volleyball Team. The physios took her in hand and had her back on her feet in a day. But alas she was not allowed to participate in Volleyball! However she still got a silver medal for coaching the team.
The following day she was able to participate in Javelin and Shot Putt, whilst standing still, and she won two Gold Medals!
Liz always credits her lovely Mum, who donated a kidney to her all those years ago. A donation that enabled her to live a full life.
Sadly Liz’s much loved mum, Christine Hosford passed away on the 17th August. I know she will be a huge loss to Liz and her family. We at Mentors for Women, send our condolences to Liz and her family at this sad time, and remember her for the amazing selfless woman she was.
