The Mastery of Self Expression created by Dan Fauci, is a practical workshop that invites us to take the stage truly as ourselves.
Most people are naturally creative and are somehow aware that they’ve cut off this unique part of themselves. When they hear there’s a space in which to express this uniqueness, it means a chance to fulfil a deep, long-held wish…” Dan Fauci
Originating from the Actors’ Institute in New York in the 1970s, and designed to help actors develop the quality of riskiness in their performances, The Mastery soon became a personal development for people of all walks of life. It has helped thousands of people explore how they can bring more of their inner resources – feelings, passion and creativity – to their performances, presentations or interactions with others.
The Mastery is a weekend course in creative self-expression that puts you in touch with who you really are and what you really want.
This is a tremendous opportunity to risk stepping into a scary and vulnerable place in the presence of a safe, friendly and empathetic audience. It is a workshop where people inspire each other, and find out more about themselves not through huge feats of endurance, but in relationship.
The Mastery will help you discover what is really possible when you bring more of your authentic self into your life. Many people describe it as a truly life changing event.

Leadership
Facilitated by Sam Chittenden, MfW Director of Training, and accredited Mastery leader, alongside other Mastery leaders from the UK and further afield.
Logistics
The Mastery takes place over a Friday evening and weekend, followed by an optional follow-up evening 10 days later. Courses are limited to a maximum of 18 participants to ensure individual attention.
Preparation
Prior to the weekend you will need to learn a two minute piece (poem, song, dance, monologue, story, piece of music, mime etc) that you will use as a vehicle for your expression. Choose something that chooses you or which you feel passionately about. It shouldn’t be something improvised.
Learning it off by heart is important — it means that you will be freer to experiment.
Learn more
Anyone who’s done the Mastery will tell you that it’s curiously difficult to explain quite what the workshop is and what makes it so unique and powerful. This is why most people who attend the workshop hear about it via word of mouth. If you’d like to talk to someone about their experience of the workshop, we can arrange this for you. We will also run some taster sessions in the run up to each workshop. If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch with Sam – here or check out our Training Information page for the next available course.
You can find out more about the workshop and what people say about it in the book On The Edge compiled by Mastery leader Christine Kimberley.
